Update Relevant Project Documents
- Aggregate and summarize risk data to update the risk register, lessons learned, and project management plan
- Update change logs with risk-driven changes
- Monitor and close out expired risks
Risk information only stays useful if the documents built on it stay current. This task is about aggregating and summarizing risk data, then feeding it back into every document that depends on it — the risk register itself, the lessons learned register, the broader project management plan, and change logs, among others.
Part of keeping those documents accurate is actively monitoring for and closing out expired risks — risks whose window for occurring has passed, or that are no longer relevant because the project context has moved on. An open risk register cluttered with risks that can no longer happen makes it harder to see the risks that actually still matter, so closing out expired entries is a meaningful part of document hygiene, not just bookkeeping.
Study focus: closing out an expired risk is a deliberate, documented action — not simply deleting it or letting it quietly go stale. PMI expects the risk register to reflect a clear, current state at any point in the project.
