Help Ensure Value-Based Delivery

Watch this chapter (3:36)

  • Prioritize delivery around business value, not just task order
  • Track and communicate value realized, not just work completed
  • Recommend course correction when value delivery lags

Being "on schedule" is not the same as delivering value — PMI increasingly tests this distinction directly. A team can burn through a sprint backlog perfectly and still be building the wrong thing if priority was set by convenience rather than business value.

Minimum Viable Product (MVP) thinking, incremental delivery, and value-based prioritization (e.g., ranking backlog items by cost of delay, not just size) all live here. Expect scenarios where a stakeholder wants a "nice to have" feature built before a high-value item — the correct PM response reprioritizes around value, with a transparent conversation about the trade-off.

Study focus: benefits realization doesn't end at project closure — many organizations track it well into operations, and PMI expects you to know the PM's role in setting that tracking up before handover.
